As part of our ongoing look at the impact of COVID-19 on CDG clients, we came across this data that highlights how it is impacting IT departments, call centers, and other remote employees. Four key IT trends have emerged, according to a new remote work IT report from LogMeIn, provider of remote work technology.

The trends include:

  • Virtual tasks and security concerns command more time: Two-thirds of IT professionals responded in a survey that they spend more time on virtual tasks like team web meetings, while 66% said they spend more time remotely accessing employee devices, and 52% said they spend more time in meetings. As for security, 54% said they are spending more time developing new security protocol, while 47% of IT professionals are spending 5 to 8 hours per day on IT security, compared to 35% in 2019.
  • IT is most worried about a breach: One of the biggest concerns is that of a cloud data breach, citied by 53% of respondents, compared to 40% in a 2018 report.
  • Lack of budget: More than a third (35%) said that a lack of budget is the biggest challenge their company is facing in trying to keep up with IT trends as they face issues with IT training, lack of IT staff, lack of control over a remote workforce and IT staff resistance to change.
  • Software facilitating remote collaboration and management proved most valuable to IT: Thirty-eight percent said IT teams prioritized remote access software first during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Despite the impact many teams experienced from COVID-19 – from budget, to resource allocation, to project priorities – many teams are now more prepared,” said Ian Pitt, LogMeIn chief information officer, in a prepared statement. “This data shows that the pandemic has led to improved training for IT and employees, ensuring all employees have the appropriate hardware and software, and even installed multifactor authentication for improved security.”

These trends are important to understand not only for CDG clients, but also for the small and medium business customers you serve.
